Midterm Check-in
Submit Graduate Application
I successfully submitted an application for the Psychology Master's graduate program on time.
Last semester I contacted three professors for recommendation letters. I have had each of them for at least one class, and participated in two of their research labs. I reminded them in January that I would be sending the request formally for a March 1st deadline. At the beginning of February I sent them my personal statement and CV. The last week of February I received feedback which I immediately incorporated into my documents. Their advice was crucial to the evolution of my personal statement.
I was admitted into the Psychology Master's graduate program.
Develop a Relationship with the Professor
I meet with the professor every week before class. We discuss the plan for the upcoming class, including how I will participate. For many classes I facilitate discussion in break-out rooms. Every other week I also participate in a call with the professor and her teacher assistants. I learn what criteria are necessary for assignments and how they will be graded. I shared patterns of student difficulties with the professor at various points at those meetings.
This semester I gave a synchronous lesson on how to use the American Psychological Association databases. I utilized a PowerPoint presentation alongside a live demonstration. I also created two asynchronous video lessons. One five-minute video lesson was to help research teams start and stay organized by utilizing various sharing platforms and word processing features. Another video lesson was fourteen-minutes and covered how to incorporate Zotero, a citation manager, into the group's workflow in order to be more efficient. I also updated the professor's PowerPoints and other guides to reflect APA 7th edition.
For the remainder of the semester I continued to meet with the professor before class and participate in her bi-weekly teacher assistant meetings.
