Written & Spoken Communication
I am a strong writer with many years of professional experience. I have written for a museum, a conservatory, and in support of frame relay repair departments. More recently, for 6 years I wrote for a plethora of websites. I am able to adapt to the medium and audience.
Having taught children and adults in educational and professional settings over the last 26 years, I am practiced at public speaking. For many years I regularly traveled the nation and taught call centers. One of the services my company offered from 2012 to 2019 was training for website owners and their employees.
I want my peers to be comfortable with me and view me as an approachable, valuable resource. When left to my natural inclination, I prefer directness. Gentle facilitation is something I have cultured and look forward to practicing with my peers.
I hope this position further expands my repertoire, as this will be my first consultant position intended to help university students become stronger writers. As a communication consultant for a Research Methods II class, I look forward to continuing to develop writing skills needed for psychology research papers. I would like to work on learning how to be more concise, since peer reviewed journals often have word count limits.
